Short answer
Google has said publicly that its ranking systems reward helpful, reliable content, and that it does not ban content simply because AI was involved. Its spam policies, however, target content produced at scale mainly to manipulate search rankings. For a store, that means the question is not “was AI used?” but “is each page accurate and useful to a shopper?”

Where ecommerce sellers get into trouble
- Unedited bulk output: hundreds of pages with the same sentence structure and no product-specific detail.
- Invented facts: materials, dimensions, compatibility or certifications the supplier never stated.
- Copied supplier text: identical descriptions already used on many other stores.
- Keyword stuffing: titles and bullets packed with search terms instead of useful information.
A safer approach
- Start from verified product data (supplier sheet, your own measurements).
- Give the AI only those facts and tell it not to add others.
- Review a sample from every batch against the source data.
- Add what only you know: sizing advice, use cases, care instructions, real customer questions.
- Publish in stages and monitor Search Console for indexing or quality issues.

What this does not tell you
No guide can promise rankings. Treat AI as a drafting tool with a human responsible for accuracy.
FAQ
Is AI-generated product copy against Google's rules?
Google's public guidance says it focuses on content quality rather than how content is produced. Using automation mainly to manipulate rankings, or to mass-produce unhelpful pages, can violate its spam policies. Check Google Search Central for the current wording.
Do I need to label product descriptions as AI-written?
Google's search guidance does not require a label for Search purposes, but some marketplaces and jurisdictions have their own disclosure rules. Check each platform's current policy.
What is the biggest risk when using AI for product pages?
Publishing inaccurate or duplicated text at scale. Invented specs hurt customers and returns, and thousands of near-identical pages add little value for searchers.
Can AI copy rank?
It can, but rankings depend on many factors and nobody can guarantee results. Accurate, specific, useful pages are the goal; the writing method is secondary.
